The No. 9 is of a singular
design that dropped out of sight for many years, solidly built
and ground
flat and true giving equally superb accuracy from the sole
or sides. This and the format employed in
its design make it, as its name suggests, an excellent exponent
of the art of the shooting board. The
side knob can be fiited to either side for right or left handed
use. Although fundamentally a big block
plane in the set up, the blade is bedded at 20° with
a bevel up of 25° giving an included cutting angle
of 45°, cutting well on both end grain and long grain.
Adjustment is via a form of bench plane yoke
inverted. The mouth is adjusted with a throat plate and adjuster
screw similar to that on a shoulder
plane. A versatile tool that excels at its prime purpose but
one you will also value for its stability and
accuracy in so many truing and trimming jobs around the workshop.
Supplied with an A2 tool steel cryogenically treated blade,
ductile iron body, bronze lever cap, brass and steel fitments
and cherry
wood handles.
