Originally employed as the
first line of attack in the commercial workshop the machine
thicknesser
has largely replaced this plane to take timber quickly down
to the required thickness from the sawn
board. Designed to take heavy roughing scalloped cuts with
its 75mm(3") radius edge, the blade is
exceptionally thick to cope with the work without chatter.
This plane will remove wood at a rapid
rate making it invaluable in fitting architectural fittings
and fixtures and renovation work; the cut
can simulate adze marks or produce an interesting textured
surface. When the job doesn’t go right
you can work out a lot of frustration using one of these. The
No. 40 ½ is supplied with cast ductile
iron body, bronze lever cap and frog, cryogenically treated
blade (massive to eliminate chatter) with cherry handles.
