Based on a traditional design
after Spiers and Norris the baby of
the brood No. ½ is designed with very delicate work in mind
and intended to remove no larger than 0.12mm(.005") shavings.
The blade is bedded at 15° and has a 25° flat ground
bevel with
the bevel up to give an included cutting angle of 40°,
the prime
setting for this fine mouth. The A2 tool steel cryogenically
treated
blade is mounted very traditionally in a bronze body with a
rosewood
fill and wedge. Tapping the heal of the plane loosens the
wedge allowing the blade to be adjusted before tapping the
wedge home to secure the blade again, making allowance for
the
slightly increased set caused by the tightening of the wedge.
Length: 140mm(5 ½")
Blade: 12.7mm(½")
